YWCA Big Sisters of Regina is seeking Volunteers for its Aboriginal mentorship program: Braided Journeys.
Braided Journeys matches positive Aboriginal female role models with Aboriginal girls and boys from the Regina community.
Matches spend 2-5 hours together every week and are encouraged to participate in activities that celebrate their Aboriginal identity.
Braided Journeys Big Sisters make a difference in the lives of children by helping them to belief in themselves.
A survey of our Little Sisters and Little Brothers shows that:
- 91% feel better about themselves.
- 65% have improved self-confidence.
- 67% have a better sense of right and wrong.
- 76% show improved school grades.
- 80% have a better school attendance record.
- 82% develop better relationships with their teacher.
- 90% get along better with other kids.
Please help us spread the word about this wonderful mentorship program by including this information in your staff newsletters, hanging our poster in your offices and telling a positive Aboriginal female about this great volunteer opportunity.
