What is In School Mentoring?
It's a small commitment that makes a big difference, no money , no experience nessary.
-ISM matches an adult volunteer (Mentor) with a child (Mentee), in a school enviroment.
-One hour per week, during school hours, while school is in session. It’s not about homework! Christmas, March break and summers off. Fun activities-crafts, sports, games, cooking, reading or just talking.
-This program is a true co-operative effort between the local school board, community and local Big Brother Big Sister agency.
Who Participates and Why
Mentee- elementary school student who would benefit from a one to one friendship with a caring adult. A positive experience that makes them feel special.
Mentor- caring, respnsible volunteer aged 18 and over, who through friendship, guidance and sharing will help build a child's self-esteem. A positive influence on community, feel better about themselves.
Companies- support employee volunteerism with flexible work schedules and /or program sponsorship. Improve public image, higher employee retention, improved employee job performance.
Local Schools- to help students. Students develop higher levels of self-esteem and show improved literacy skills.
BBBS of Centre Wellington- provides orientation, training and on going support. Helps fulfill our mission.
