Could your little one use a Big?

Could your child or a child you know benefit from a one-on-one relationship with a kind, caring role model? By giving them the opportunity to be part of Big Brothers Big Sisters of  Clarington, you’re starting them down a path to an even brighter, more promising future! Enquire today to see if one of our mentoring programs would be right for your child.

Eligibility of Littles:

When applying for our programs, a Little Brother or Little Sister must be between the ages of 6 and 16 years. The friendship with a Big Brother and Big Sister can be supported by the agency through to 18 years of age.

Our caseworkers work with you and your child to determine how a Big Brother or Sister would be beneficial. There are many reasons why a child would benefit from a mentor in their life, and we will make a match based on your child’s needs. Factors to be considered regarding the need for a Big Brother or Sister in your child’s life include:

·         Parent or guardian support

·         Adult involvement other than the parent(s) or guardian(s)

·         Peer relationships

·         School performance

·         Involvement in community activity

·         Living environment

·         Ability to form and maintain a healthy, safe relationship

·         Ability to perform self-care

Safety from the start:

Your child's safety is extremely important to us. Big Brothers & Sisters of Clarington conducts a thorough background check on every volunteer in our program, and every friendship is closely monitored and supported by a professionally trained match coordinator. During the application process, we will explain the safety guidelines and procedures related to your child's program.

The Enrolment Process:

2.       Drop by our office to pick up an application form for your child or give us a call and we can mail you one to get the process started.

3.       Meet with our staff so we can interview you and your child, and learn about your child’s needs and interests.

4.       You and your child will attend a child safety training session run by our caseworkers.

5.       Once we know get to know your child we will work on finding him/her the perfect mentor. We match children with mentors based on how compatible they are because we want to make sure the friendship is going to be a great one.
