BIG Success!
Our 16th Annual Golf Tournament was held on July 21, 2010. As many as 100 golfers came out for a great day on the course. With the support and commitment of Scotiabank and Seaway News, the sponsors and all golfers who participated, the tournament raised $19,300.00. Funds raised will go towards Big Brothers Big Sisters Mentoring programs.
BIG Thanks
Our 5th Pump a Little Gas Event on July 10, 2010 was a day of BIG fun. Over 60 volunteers came out and spent the day pumping gas for donations, washing windows and flipping burgers. The 2nd date of the Pump A Little Gas Event was August 21, 2010 at MacEwens in Alexandria and at Esso in Monkland.
BIG thanks to McEwens, O.P.P. Auxiliary, and Benson for partnering up with BBBS for this fun event. Thank you also to our Big Brother Big Sister agency volunteers.
Hope to see you again next year!
United Way will be launching their 2010 Campaign in September 2010. BBBS has been a member agency of the S. D. & G. United Way since 2007. United Way believes in our community, and believes that its success depends on the people who live in it. Together we hope to enhance the lives of more youth and children in need of friendship and guidance. BIG thanks to all our volunteers that support the United Way.
A new addition to the BBBS office!
We would like to welcome Ken McLeod to the team. Ken comes to us from the Social Service Worker Program at St. Lawrence College. He will be working with caseworker Sue Adams from September to December. I hope you all get a chance to meet him. He organized a brand-new camp for kids this summer and 10 of our Littles got to go! We are excited to have you Ken.

LEARN TO BE A KID AGAIN!!
September is Big Brothers Big Sisters Awareness Month!!
September is the month in which we, as an agency, try to make the community more aware of who we are and what we do. At the AugustCity council meeting the mayor and councillors proclaimed that September is to be known as Big Brother Big Sister month in the City of Cornwall. On August
30th, 2010 the flag was hung at City Hall. This is a great way to celebrate our movement. With 85 children still on waiting lists we are always actively trying to spread the word. You will notice our name splashed on business billboards. Please take a minute to say thank you to these business owners and staff because they need to see their support makes a difference. If you work somewhere you feel might benefit from a 10 to 15min speech, please give Amanda a call and she can arrange it. Thanks for all of your support.
Big Thanks to Hermann Rogalsky for once again providing our matches with tickets to the Shrine Circus… Our families and matches had a great time.
Thank You to Linda Halliday from Ontario Power Generation
for their wonderful donation of a balloon ride at lift off. Jen Berard and Cody got the ride of a lifetime. They had a rocky landing in a farmer’s field but loved every minute of it.
ISM and Go Girls!!
Our agency hopes to continue to expand and grow the In School Mentoring and Go Girl Programs that will be starting in September.
The ISM program has adults being matched up with a child in elementary school for 1 hour a week. They can do activities such as reading, crafts, board games, snacks, library to read or play in the gym.
The Go Girls program has 2 volunteer women going into the school with 8 young girls for 2hrs a week for 7 weeks teaching young girls about healthy eating, healthy choices and active lifestyles. It is run right after school gets out.
If you or someone you know might be interested in these programs please give Sue a call at 613 933-8035 or check out the website for more information. www.bigbrothersbigsisters.ca/cornwall
