Cranbrook, BC -- One way to support Big Brothers Big Sisters this Fall is by investing in The Greater Interest GIC® at your local Canadian Western Bank (CWB) branch. We know you have plenty of investment options, so why not choose one that gives back to your community?

Selecting The Greater Interest GIC® means that not only do you get a competitive interest rate, but also, based on every dollar you invest, CWB will make a donation of 1/8% to your local Big Brothers Big Sisters. In 2009, through this promotion, CWB generated $300,000 in donations for children’s charities across Western Canada.

“Canadian Western Bank is proud to support the tireless efforts and important work of Big Brothers Big Sisters,” says Kate Denis, Community Investment Program Manager. “We strive to ensure our efforts have the greatest impact possible, and we work hard to help support and strengthen the communities that our customers and employees call home.”

“Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook is happy to partner with CWB through their Greater Interest GIC campaign,” says Mike Eckersley. “All money donated by CWB goes to support children right here in our community and goes toward our valuable community programs. Each child we serve benefits from having a mentor in his or her life.”

Working hard to make our communities better!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 1, 2010

Cranbrook, BC,– Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook is pleased to announce the appointment of Dana Osiowy as Executive Director of the organization, effective August 23, 2010.  Dana, who succeeds Debbie Sinclair in the position, joins the agency from her work as the Community Youth Liaison with Columbia Basin Trust.

Through her role as with Columbia Basin Trust, Dana had been actively involved in East Kootenay communities and was familiar with the BBBS programs including, In-School Mentoring and Go Girls!  Since getting married and relocating to Cranbrook, Dana has become more familiar with the Cranbrook community and according to Gord Lehman, Chair of the Board of Directors, “Dana’s diverse experience working with youth, grants and various community stakeholders and her enthusiasm and outgoing manner made her a great choice to continue the foundation laid by Debbie Sinclair.”  As Executive Director, Dana will oversee all areas of the agency and will continue to focus on providing the best possible service to the people and communities the organization serves.  These communities currently include Cranbrook and Kimberley.

In 2009, Big Brothers Big Sisters served over 50 children and hosts over 40 mentors through its various programs.  While the need for traditional Big Brother Big Sister matches continues to grow, the organization also provides in-school mentoring and programs like Go Girls!”  Go Girls involves girls in grades seven and eight and is designed to provide them with the tools they need to make healthy choices around the issues of physical activity, balanced eating and feeling good about themselves.  The organization also provides the opportunity for couples who are interested in mentoring a young person to do so together with its couples match program.

Commenting on her new position with the agency, Dana says, “I am very excited to have the opportunity to lead the agency onward and upward to many new endeavors and I am looking forward to bringing high quality services to our communities”. Dana continues, “It is a real honor and privilege to work for such a reputable organization”.

It only takes one hour a week to make a difference in the life of a child.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer with the agency call Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook at 250-489-3111 or telus.net
