THIS IS A SCHOOL BASED GROUP MENTORING PROGRAM designed to encourage physical activity, healthy eating and the development of a positive self-image among girls ages 11 to 14. Thanks to Funding from the Leon & Thea Koerner Foundation Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cranbrook can offer this program for the school 2009/2010 term.
Group sessions are led by 1-2 volunteer adult female mentors paired with 1-2 teen female mentors from Mount Baker High School grades 11/12 and these leaders work with a mximum group of 12-15 adolescent girls from the Cranbrook Middle Schools. The group meets weekly for 1.5 hours for 7-8 consecutive weeks at school. Teen mentors this can count towards your CAPP requirements; college students also receive credits depending on your field of study.
January through March 2010 there was one group at Laurie School and one group at Parkland Middle School. Ask your school counselor about the Go Girls' groups starting again in April 2010!
