Go Girls! Healthy Bodies Healthy Minds Program is an evidence-based program designed to address the physical activity, balanced eating, and positive self-image needs of young women ages 10 -14 based on a group mentoring model. Female volunteers aged 18 – 26 are trained to act as mentors to a group of young women, with whom they meet for 1-2 hours/week for 7 weeks, in a ratio of 1:4.
The main goal of both programs is to develop an appreciation of the benefits of an active, healthy lifestyle. In addition, the programs strive to achieve the following key objectives:• To support girls and young women in maintaining a healthy active lifestyle
• To provide girls and young women with the tools and information they need in order to choose to lead a healthy lifestyle
• To enhance confidence and self-esteem in girls and young women
• To build the leadership and life skills of volunteer mentors and mentees.
Go Girls! positively impacts health and wellness, and
belonging and leadership for all student participants and volunteers. As a direct result of increased self-esteem and the tools to make positive life choices, it is our belief that all young women will be better equipped to make positive decisions, be assertive and find their voice.
