Peel Big Sister New Great Canadian Big

During the month of April, Big Brothers Big Sisters Alumni along with Mandarin and Vintage hotels launched a radio, web and TV campaign across Southern Ontario to call for all past and current volunteers to submit their feel good inspirational story.

Marsha Balsdon, Big Sister of 7 years from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Peel, was given the ultimate title after beating out a dozen other qualifiers. Balsdon first qualified for the grand prize after appearing on Rogers Daytime TV to share her story about her Little Sister, Emily. Balsdon was presented with a Dinner for 4 voucher to Mandarin and now wins a weekend theatre package to Niagara-on-the-lake, courtesy of Vintage Hotels. “Really? Why me? I cannot believe it!” said Balsdon after hearing the good news. “Humility is a very common characteristic in many volunteers across Big Brothers and Big Sisters and it is a great benefit to be able to honour and recognize as many volunteers as possible through the alumni program” says Monika Paquette,
Alumni Director. “BBBS Alumni features individual experiences, stories and memories and show just how valuable a mentoring relationship can be."

Everyone that has been involved with the organization, either as a Big Brother, Big Sister, Little Brother or Little Sister, who are now over 18 years old, committee volunteers or board members are invited to register with its new Alumni program! Individuals can register online at
www.bbbsalumni.ca and among many of its benefits each member will also receive an official Big Brothers Big Sisters Alumni lapel pin, simply for registering. They will be kept aware of the organization and their agency’s news and events, inspirational stories from fellow alumni and
perhaps even reconnect with a former Big or Little.
