What is Stepping Stones?

Stepping Stones is a social skills group program for youth ages 5-12 that explores issues such as divorce and separation, anger management, conflict resolution, decision making, and peer and family relationships. Practical tools are taught that participants can apply to their everyday life, to increase their social competence, their problem solving ability, their sense of autonomy, and their belief in the future.

Why Stepping Stones?

Stepping Stones is our response to a community need for strengthening young people’s core building-blocks which are essential for their development and capacity to develop strong, healthy and positive relationships with others.

Program Delivery

The program is run in 10-12 week intervals. Participants attend a group session once per week. Each group consists of four to six children.  Groups are activity based and offer children a time to draw, write and contribute their own thoughts, feelings, and opinions about issues that are important to them.  It also allows time for group discussion.

Who can Participate?

Any young person that needs some extra attention or  help in developing and building their social skills and competencies in areas such as communication, dealing with feelings (especially anger), making decisions, etc.  An initial inquiry with the parent and teacher helps to identify specific areas where help is needed. An inquiry with all parties upon program completion measures success and areas for future development.

Where is the program held?

Groups are held once a week in various schools throughout the Greater Fort Erie area. Evening groups are also offered at the agency’s office @ 120 Jarvis Street. If you are interested in learning more, we would be happy to speak to with you and answer any questions you may have.
