Teen In-School Mentoring is a traditional program with a twist! It mirrors our In-School Mentoring program, but rather than the volunteer mentors being adults, they are SD #60 Secondary School Students.
This is a school-based program that matches elementary school students with high school students who will meet weekly to participate in activities - that are not academically based! It’s not about homework! Teen In-School Mentoring is a program that takes place at the elementary school, during school hours, but is about having fun with a friend and not about studying! The Big spends one hour per week doing a fun activity or just talking with a child who could use a friend.
Younger students gain valuable social interaction through their new friendship and the high school students learn leadership skills and the benefits of being a volunteer, while also earning school credits.
