JOIN OUR MENTORING TEAM!

A mentor is a caring, responsible adult who spends one hour a week with a child at the school during school hours. We provide games, crafts and activities to do. Share just one hour a week with a child at a school near you! Just be a friend.

During the visits, the volunteer and child may choose from a number of activities according to their mutual interests. These include board games, crafts, card games, playing in the gym, reading or just visiting. Research has shown that it is the stable relationship that has an impact on the child, rather than whatever activity they choose.

Mentors, through the simple act of friendship, are able to influence the resiliency of a child and their future success in life. Resiliency is the ability to rise above difficult life circumstances. One person really can make a BIG difference!

We are asking people to apply now if they are interested in mentoring a child during the 2011/2012 school year. This will give us time to complete the screening and get to know each volunteer to ensure they will be ready to go in the fall. In-School Mentor volunteers are needed in schools in Innisfail, Bowden, Penhold, SpruceView, Caroline.
