2009 Kids 'N Kops
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge and District, in partnership with the Lethbridge Regional Police Service offered the 11th annual Kids n’ Kops Program this summer! Kids n’ Kops operates as a mini police academy, and this year it ran from August 17- 21, 2009 from 9:00 am- 4:00 pm. Ten children from ages 6-12 participated, with most of the children on the waiting list to be matched with a mentor. Kids n’ Kops participants had the opportunity to become better acquainted with our organization, and to foster a trusting relationship with the police.
The program consists of educational presentations by various local police officials, and various activities within the community planned by our agency. Constable Tom Gross was the co-facilitating presence for his fifth year! Constable Gross planned all sessions involving the police, including a tour of the station, insider experience of the Forensic Unit, a hands on session with the Tactical unit and demonstrations by the K9 unit & Bike Patrol Unit. Not only did these sessions intrique the kids, they were fun & informative!
This years activities also included a trip to the Fire Station, Bowling at the Holiday Bowl, participating in the Whoop up days parade, Art project at the SAAG, a movie at the Movie Mill, a walk in the Corn Maze and a BBQ at Park Lake.
We would like to thank all of the Local Businesses who donated lunches, snacks, games, prizes & other supplies that made this week possible. Without the support of our fellow community members, this amazing week for BBBS kids would not have been possible.
