What is Teen Mentoring?

Teen Mentoring is about friendship!

High School Volunteers of Big Brothers Big Sisters (14-18 years old), are matched to children (ages 6-12) at participating Elementary schools. Meeting for one hour a week at the elementary school, from October to March. On-site support is provided, where matches spend quality one-to-one time together having fun and enriching their lives. All activities and supplies are provided and planned by our BBBS Lethbridge Caseworkers. These activities have included pumpkin carving, special guests, science experiments, arts, crafts, music and much more. Our program is provided at no cost to the participants.

The matches from School District 51 enjoy healthy food and snacks during the sessions. Our partnership with the Holy Spirit School District is during the lunch hour and those matches are provided a healthy lunch during the sessions.

Our goal is to provide leadership in understanding healthy living choices through example, as well as creating quality, once in a lifetime friendships and experiences.

In 2010-2011 we conducted our pilot project with wonderful reviews from both the bigs and little’s. We partnered Winston Churchill High School Students with Park Meadows Elementary School Students for a total of 20 sessions.  With 2010-2011 being such a success we have expanded our program from one, to four partnering schools in 2011-2012.

How Can You Help?

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge & District is looking to form lasting partnerships within the community. These partnerships will help provide materials, food and funding to our Teen Mentoring program. We hope to continue to provide this essential program to its participants at no cost.

This is an opportunity to sponsor a new Big Brothers Big Sisters initiative Teen Mentoring.

With your valued help we can make a BIG difference in the lives of our little’s.
