Thank you for your interest in becoming a Mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge & District. Our agency works with children, youth, parents, schools, and mentors to make suitable friendship matches.
Big Brothers Big Sisters provides volunteer recruitment, screening, training,
ongoing support, and monitoring. The Volunteer Application below can be downloaded and returned to our office:

Download the application forms. Print clearly and complete all sections. Return to Big Brothers Big Sisters office via fax (403-328-5960) or mail to:

Many of these forms require your signing and dating in the presence of agency staff. The following is the application process after your application is submitted:
1. Police Check: We provide you with Police Check forms to take to the Lethbridge Regional Police Service. We pay for your Police Check!!!
2. Intervention Record Check: (formally called CWIS check) Forms can be filled out at South West Child and Family Services (Lethbridge Centre Tower, 2nd Floor, 400 4th Ave. S.). This takes about a week to process and you must personally pick up the Intervention Record Check with picture identification (no charge).
3. Insurance policy: (not for those applying to In-School Mentoring program) Arrange to have your insurance company forward a statement showing you have $1 million dollars liability coverage on your vehicle.
4. Photocopy of ID: We require a photocopy of the following:
a. Driver's License or Passport or Citizenship Number
b. Alberta Health Care card or Birth Certificate
5. Volunteer Orientation/Child Safety Session: Sessions held every second Tuesday from 6-8 pm. Call us to sign up for a session.
6. Schedule an interview: Home interview (Traditional program) or an In-office interview (In-School Mentoring program) with a caseworker. Couples are interviewed both separately and together (Couples for Kids program).
After your references are contacted and you have completed steps 1-5, a caseworker will make a recommendation based on the information gathered. The Executive Director makes the final decision regarding approval.
Big Brothers Big Sisters does continuous volunteer intake, training and screening in order to bring another child one step closer to being matched to a caring adult friend.
