Big Couples Mentoring in Lethbridge
Volunteering as a mentor to a child can be one of the most rewarding things you do. Big Couples program provides a way for couples to share their time together with a child.
The couples enrich their lives by spending time together and sharing their friendship with a child who needs a friend.
The program matches couples with a child for a unique two-to-one friendship. The friendship can help to broaden the life of a child and provide acceptance, guidance and support.

know? 2 in 5 girls are dieting even though they’re already at a healthy, normal
weight. Only 4 percent of Canadian girls are getting enough daily physical
activity to meet recommended health guidelines. Did you know that 70% of girls
who feel pressure to be beautiful from “friends”, have avoided social activity.
To summarize, adolescent and puberty can be a difficult time in a girl’s life
and this is why Big Brothers Big Sisters Big Brothers Big Sisters has recently
grown our programming to include group based mentoring for middle
school girls ages 12-14. The program is called Go
Grils! The goal of Go Girls! is to provide the girls and
young women with information and support to make informed choices about
healthy, active living while maintaining sensitivity toward emotional, social
and cultural issues they may face.
is a mentor-led, program that incorporates fun, educational games and
activities designed to stimulate self-reflection and group discussion. Each
session will focus on the three key issues: Active Living, Balanced
Eating and Feeling Good. We will touch on these topics by incorporating Yoga
and nontraditional physical activities into each session as a form of physical
activity. In addition at each session we will enjoy a balanced snack and will
also focus on feeling good and positive youth development. This program
is active and practical as well as fun and informative. The Mentors are adults
who will be to provide the support and guidance to the girls. Participants will
have the opportunity to feel safe and comfortable in the environment we will
create. We want this to be an inclusive experience for these girls where they
can celebrate their uniqueness but feel that they fit in and belong.
Sessions will run at G.S. Lakie and Wilson Middle School in the Fall.
