Mentalist Danny Zzzz makes first appearance in Atlantic Canada tomorrow at Riverview Arts Centre

Danny Zzzz's (pronounced "zee") show might put you to sleep, but not out of boredom.

The hypnotist, magician, mentalist and illusionist all rolled into one is performing at a fundraiser Saturday night at the Riverview Arts centre.

"When you come to the show, you can except to be entertained from the moment you arrive until the second you leave and it will be non-stop laughter," said Danny, who got his training in hypnotherapy at the Toronto school of Hypnosis and University of New Jersey. "It's high energy and action-packed, clean content, family entertainment,"

The performance is in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Moncton.

A former little brother himself, Danny said he knows what it takes to run a program like that, and his time with the Big Brothers-Big Sisters program helped shape who he is today.

"I was a little brother; my parents were divorced," he said, "I don't think I knew who I wanted to be. I used entertainment to discover myself. It was easy to not turn to drugs or drinking because I was getting a natural high from entertainment."

Danny said he was about 10 when he realized he wanted to be an entertainer, and he hasn't looked back since.

"I'm one of those guys who sets their mind to it, and I said I was going to do it and it's what I did," he said. "I wasn't stoppable."

He lists Harry Houdini as his favorite performer because the magician was so far ahead of his time.

"He created many, many effects and illusions and magic before the computer age," Danny said. "He did it when you had to make everything yourself. All the gadgets he was able to use... it was really inspiring because he was such an inventor."

Danny has toured professionally for 7-1/2 years now, playing approximately 300 nightly shows per year at the Niagara Theatre of the Performing Arts in Niagara Falls, Ont.

He's currently on his first Atlantic Canadian tour and will be off to Florida's Disneyland later this month.

Danny was also the only Canadian featured on the NBC talent show Phenomenon, a Criss Angel-hosted search for the next great mentalist.

His number one trick is called the Bag of Awesome. At the beginning of the show, when the crowd has just been seated, he tosses a frisbee into the audience. The person who catches it is given an envelope."There are no stooges," he said. "I never use anyone planted in the audience." he then tosses more frisbees or a few beach balls into the crowd, those who are lucky enough to grab one are asked to shout out a word of their choice. "It can be any word, a name or a number, whatever they want," said the father of two. "When all of these people name their word, we open the envelope to reveal that the words inside at the exact same." “It's the most unbelievable in thing you'll see with your own eyes,"

He lives out his dream every night when he takes the stage, Danny said, but isn't sure he has fulfilled his potential as an entertainer just yet.

"It's a pleasure to go to work every day, I love what I do and I do this because it's what I'm meant to do, not what I have to do. Everyday is a gift," he said, noting he'd like to have his own TV show to reach more people. "But I don't believe I've reached where I want to be as far as the entertainment business is concerned."
