WANTED: Brighton Bowlers
to keep the ball rolling!
Port Hope, Feb. 25, 2011: There’s still time to book a lane at the greatest little bowling alley in the county for NBSBB’s Brighton event on Saturday, March 5. Sign up for a 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. game, and join us for an hour of laughs and prizes to raise awareness and funds for the county’s kids (we have two “Big and Little” mentor matches in Brighton, and a boy and girl waiting for mentors in the Brighton area).
Bowl for Kids Sake 2011 rolled out in style last Saturday, with 36 teams having a great time and raising an amazing $13,000 for Northumberland Big Sisters Big Brothers. So far, this campaign has brought in $17,750 from 51 teams whose bowling skills may be questionable, but who have huge hearts and fantastic fundraising skills! And for the third year running, the fundraiser to beat is Cameco’s Lori Cater, who handed over $1,800 in pledges on Saturday, putting her Cameco team in top spot with a total of $2,600. RBC Cobourg (with participation from the Port Hope branch) is holding second place at just over $2,000; The Lions Club of Cobourg has a slight edge for third over Thomas Pontiac, with Ganaraska Financial close behind.
The BFKS travelling road show hits the Trent Valley alley in Campbellford on Sunday, Mar. 27 from 2 to 4 p.m., and several “challenge” games are still on the schedule – Port Hope Rotary on Mar. 14; The Cat and the Fiddle restaurant challenge Mar. 27 – and school time slots are starting to fill up in March and April.
All it takes to make a big difference in a kid’s life is getting four to six people to form a team, collect a minimum of $30 per person in pledges and call Sophie at Big Sisters Big Brothers (905-885-6422 or e-mail sophiebsbb@eagle.ca) to book a bowling time in Brighton, Campbellford, or in Cobourg on a Monday or Wednesday evening, if that’s more convenient. You can also register your team and collect pledges online at http://www.northumberland.kintera.org/bowlforkidssake2011.
Northumberland BSBB would like to thank all of those who have supported our 30th annual Bowl For Kids Sake campaign so far, in so many ways, from bowling, to sponsoring bowlers, lanes, T-shirts, or donating their time or money. We also encourage anyone who would like to help out to contact us about contributing to this great event, which secures approximately 17 percent of our budget, and is therefore vital to our agency and the kids we serve.
