Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John launched their vigorous year- long recruitment campaign called 1 Year 100 Men this morning. This campaign will work on recruiting volunteers to match with the over 100 children currently on the waiting list. 70 percent of these children are young boys.
“Unfortunately there are potentially many more children that are hesitant to request mentors because of the intimidating waiting list and potential wait times” said Deanna Gamble, PR Officer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John. This 1 Year 100 Men campaign will help to inform potential volunteers of what is required to become a Mentor and hopefully eliminate any misconceptions that mentoring is too time consuming.“Many people think that you have to parent these kids or that it will be a burden, when actually it can be quite the opposite. To become a mentor is to become a friend and can actually benefit your life more than you would think,” Gamble said.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John serves over 200 children and youth from Hampton to St. Stephen.

Awaken your inner child, become a mentor
Recruiting new mentors a top priority for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John this September.
September is a time of new beginnings and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John is celebrating the month’s spirit of change by daring Saint John and area residents to rediscover the magic of their childhood by connecting with a child in need of guidance.
The drive for volunteers is part of Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Dare to be a kid again campaign, which “dares” adults from all walks of life to see life through the eyes of a child by volunteering to mentor a Little Brother or Little Sister.
“Mentoring is a transforming experience that enables the “Big” to recapture the fun and excitement of childhood,” says Laurie Collins, Executive Director, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Saint John. “If you want to awaken your inner child and energize yourself, there is no better way than to volunteer to participate in one of our mentoring services.”
