In-School Mentoring

The In-School Mentoring Program is a joint project of South Shore Big Brothers Big Sisters and the South Shore Regional School Board. It provides an opportunity for children to benefit from a one-on-one relationship in the school setting with a caring, reliable adult.

It’s not about homework! The In-School Mentoring Program takes place at the child’s school, during the school year. The In-School Mentor spends one (1) hour per week doing a fun activity or just talking with a child who could use a friend.

In-School Mentoring Program Sponsorship

The school day and the work day coincide so a key component of this program is the employer! Providing a work atmosphere that allows flex time in rescheduling appointments or work hours greatly impacts a person’s willingness to become a Mentor. We encourage employers to give employees the paid time off during the work day to volunteer…studies show that people who volunteer perform better on the job! For supporting this initiative the employer will receive a plaque acknowledging their support, and recognition in regional publications and website.

Imagine our communities, our schools, and our future if every child who wants a mentor has a mentor!
