History

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Stettler has been creating friendships since 1984. We started out with the help of FCSS when a single dad identified a need for his two daughters to have a positive female role model. As in most Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies nationwide, the Stettler program had encountered an ever-increasing number of children waiting to be matched with a volunteer. Our board of directors was concerned about the growing number of unmatched children, and explored ways of further meeting the needs of program children, as well as other community youth; thus incorporating Boys and Girls Club. In 1990 Big Brothers Big Sisters and Boys and Girls Club amalgamated under the auspices of "Heartland Youth Center" and have grown to include a variety of different programs that serve both boys and girls.  We are proud of our achievements and continue to strive to be on the leading edge of the Big Brothers Big Sisters movement in Canada.
