Heartland Youth Center is very fortunate to have two national organizations under one roof, especially when it comes to teen volunteers. Many of our volunteers start out by participating in our after-school programs with Boys and Girls Club. As they grow older and wiser they become Junior Leaders, helping to run programs and supervise younger children. Junior Leaders have the added advantage of joining our RAD program for summer trips such as going to the Zoo, Wild Rapids, swimming and Lacombe Corn Maze. Sure they are running errands and assisting with programs, but it's all fun and games!

Several of our Boys and Girls Club members also become Teen Mentors with our Big Brothers Big Sisters programs. Teens in grades 9-12 are encouraged to spend one hour per week, during school months, hanging out with a younger student. Volunteers gain school credits, work experience, and get to play games and crafts during their school days. Teens provide positive role modeling and friendship to children on a one-to-one basis, thus boosting the child's self esteem and confidence. If you are a teen who is interested in gaining school credits, and helping out a younger student this fall, please call 403-742-5437
