February 2011 was a busy month for us at HYC. Our 20th Annual Lloyd's Bowl for Kids was a tremendous success, although it was bittersweet as we sadly missed our top fundraiser Lloyd Smith, who passed away in January. HYC members and staff really came through and in spite of Lloyd's absense we raised over $17 000, our biggest year ever!
Our Torch members held our second annual Valentine's Spaghetti Supper. Attendance was up quite a bit from last year, we had a full house. Members did an excellent job of decorating and preparing a fantastic meal. Thanks Torch!
On February 25 we celebrated our Lloyd's Bowl for Kids success with an Awards presentation.
March always brings our Annual General Meeting and Awards. We honored many people with the following awards.
Corporate Cares - GPW Hauling & Chapman & Co.
Marg Forrester Memorial Award - Leann Graham
Lloyd's Leaders Award - Cheyanne Copeland & Kyle Nims
Nicole Blumhagen Memorial Award - Jason Emblau & Chance Moon
HYC Hall of Fame Award - Stettler Rotary Club
We also celebrated our membership of over 300 children and youth and acknowledges nearly 5000 volunteer hours in our organization.
In June we enjoyed our fabulous FUNdraiser, the Awesome Auction. Our theme "Hollywood Glam" encouraged lots of elegant guests to attend and generously support the youth center.
July and August saw the RAD program at HYC once again. Kids from all over the county enjoyed fun summer days at the center and on some great trips. Our summer staff Cherisee, Tammy, Courtney, Kelsey and Kim did a great job of keeping the kids busy and happy!
The past fall saw some staffing changes at HYC. Megan Huskinson and Sarah Syvret joined the team as we kicked off our fall after school programing. We've changed things up a bit this fall and the teens enjoy a drop in day all to themselves on Thursdays.
Keystone and Torch held the Annual Haunted House at the Stettler Mall this year. It was, once again, a spooktacular event. Fun and freeky for all!
Some of our Keystone teens joined other Alberta Keystone clubs at a retreat at the Goldeye Centre near Nordegg in November. They had a great time meeting teens from all over the province and making memories with them.
Our year wrapped up with our after school Christmas party with a visit from none other than the big man himself.
As we say good-bye to 2011, once again we thank our many donors and volunteers who really do make a difference in the lives of the kids of Stettler and district. Thank-you!
