Rainbows

RAINBOWS

Rainbows is a support group program for children who have suffered a significant loss in their lives, either by death, divorce, or any other painful transition. The purpose of Rainbows is to provide these children with an opportunity to sort through and understand their grief; and to help them come to a healthy acceptance of what has happened in their family.

Rainbows is not a counselling session or therapy for children. It is strictly a peer support group with caring, trained adults to guide them. Confidentiality binds children, as well as adults.

The Rainbows program consists of weekly sessions that are approximately one hour in duration. During these sessions the children come together in small groups to discuss various topics, such as Self, Trust, Anger, and Family. There are eighteen topics in total.

The Rainbows program is offered once a year based on referrals. If you have a child between the ages of 6 and 14, interested in attending the program, or adults interested in volunteering as Facilitators, please call the Heartland Youth Center  403-742-5437.
