I am a Big Sister
I am a swimming partner, a craft builder.
I am a hot chocolate on a cold day drinker.
I am a library hound and a movie popcorn sharer.
I am a role model, a listener and a friend.
My Little?
The bearer of many gifts.
Her laughter. Her company. Her trust.
I am in receipt of the several years
She has given me to learn those gifts.
And I have earned them by allowing her
To take her time in giving them.
These are gifts that can’t be bought.
Or expected.
What I love about being a Big Sister?
The privilege of learning patience.
Learning kindness and caring.
Learning I can show these things openly
That I have taken for granted.
And when my Little takes my hand
Hugs me,
Or writes a letter signed, "with love",
The waiting and the patience.
And the caring and the trust
Overwhelm me with joy and pride.
I have touched someone’s life.
And been blessed in return.
