Big Brothers Big Sisters is about the power of friendship.  The Bigs and Littles in our program experience the magic of everyday moments when they are shared with a friend.  Everyone needs someone to laugh with, share dreams and just hangout... with friends it's the little things that mean the most.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Big Brothers Big Sisters, the mentoring programs provide children with supportive companionship, giving them the chance to have that special person in their lives.

What is Big Brothers / Big Sisters?

We commit to provide quality volunteer based mentoring programs to children in Yorkton and District.

We are an organization dedicated to helping in the development of children growing up in primarily single-parent families.

What qualifies a person to be a Big Brother or Big Sister?

Whether you are young or old, married or single, a professional or a homemaker, you can be a Big Brother or Big Sister.  You don't need special training.  You don't need a lot of money.  All you need are your own personal reasons for wanting to help a child.  Maybe you enjoy being with kids.  Maybe you want to make a difference in a child's life.. to show what caring means.  Maybe you want to make your own life more meaningful.  You have much to give, and much to share with a child in need of a special friend.

Who are Little Brothers and Little Sisters?

The children in our program are generally between the age of 6 and 16.  They are resourceful, responsive young people who would love to spend time with an adult who shares their interests. These children can help you see the world through the eyes of a child and re-discover the joy of life's simple experiences.

How does the program work?

We try to match children who are in need of consistent friendship and guidance with a mature adult role model in a one-on-one relationship.

What happens after a match is made?

After the Big and Little meet, the match consultant stays in touch to complete match follow-ups and provide assistance as they establish their friendship.

How do we measure our success?

Our focus is on prevention of problems. Success can be seen through academic improvements, improved social skills, or sometimes it is as simple as seeing a smile that was not there before.

Does it cost a lot of money to be a Big?

The cost is really nothing but your time. It's being together and getting to know each other that is truly important.

What committment is involved?

A minimum commitment of a year or two is expected but many matches carry on for a number of years.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters are friends to Little Brothers and Little Sisters.

That is important to us. And remember, with a friend you can wash a car, fly a kite, take a walk, build a model, ride bikes, play ball, read books, attend a sports event, or just talk.

Friends share their time and interests... and Big Brothers and Big Sisters are good friends!

Wouldn't it be great to be a kid again?

We can make that happen. By volunteering with Big Brothers, Big Sisters, you can, once again, experience the youthful moments of life, and you and a child will both be forever changed by the experience. Even better than that, it's easy to get involved, it's fun, and there's no experience necessary!

50 years from now
it will not matter what kind of car you drove,
What kind of house you lived in,
How much you had in your bank account,
Nor what your clothes looked like;
But the world may be a little better because
You were important in the life of a child
