It’s not about homework! This is a program that takes place at the child’s school, during the school year. The Mentor spends one hour per week doing a fun activity or just talking with a child who could use a friend. We encourage employers to give employees the time during the work day to volunteer…studies show that people who volunteer perform better on the job!

Make a Difference in the Life of a Child
Boys and Girls, Men and Women Having Fun!

What is The In School Mentoring Program?
The In School Mentoring Program is a fun and rewarding volunteer program that matches an adult or teen volunteer with a child who meet for one hour a week in a school setting.
MENTORING is an opportunity for you to personally make a difference in the life of a child while having fun yourself.
The Mentor is not a counselor or a tutor. The mentor is there to:
- Provide Friendship
- Be a Role Model
- Have FUN!!!
Once matched the volunteer will meet with the child for an hour, once a week, during school hours, and on school property, for the duration of the school calendar year. Suggested activites include physical activities, sports, games, reading together, working on the computer, making crafts or simply talking.
Friendships are based on mutual interests and time. Matches are caring volunteers, male or female, with a student to help improve the student's self-esteem and school interests. Mentors visit the student for one hour each week within the school environment.

Who Participates in the Program?
The Children
The children are elementary school students, generally ages 6 to 10 years, who would benefit from a one-to-one friendship with a caring adult, want to participate and have parental permission to do so.
The Mentor
Mentors are Women and Men generally over the age of 18, or with Teen Mentoring may be a High School student 16 years plus, who want to make a difference in the life of a child. Mentors come from all walks of life including trades people, homemakers, High School, University and College students, retirees and members of the business community.
The Employer
The school day and the week day coincide so a key component of this program is the employer. Providing a work atmosphere that allows flex time in rescheduling appointments or work hours greatly impacts a person's willingness to volunteer.
Studies show that employees who are satisfied by meeting personal goals such as volunteering, are more productive. Employer supported volunteerism improves customer relations and consumer loyalty, reduces absenteeism, improves retention of employees, increases brand recognitionand improves corporate public image. Employers can take the lead by encouraging volunteering for the In School Mentoring Program within their community!
