Title:  Camp Counsellor

            “Champions of Change” Youth Leadership Camp
Accountable to: Lead Camp Counsellor
Time Commitment: 40 Hours per Week

“Champions of Change” is a summer day camp that promotes leadership and good citizenship within the community. 

 Requirements:

  • Valid CPR / First Aid Certification
  •  Experience working with children in a group setting
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong work ethic with ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • High Five Training would be considered an asset
  • Must be a student returning to full time studies in September       

The Camp Counsellor will be called upon to creatively develop volunteer opportunities and leadership/recreational activities for campers in the community.  Also, because many of the same presenters have been accessed in past summers, an important responsibility is to cultivate new partnerships with community members and invite them to become involved, thus helping to create more opportunities for our campers.

The Camp Counselor will use a wide range of skills by meeting the following responsibilities:

  • Organization: Scheduling of events, guest speakers, day trips & activities, etc for each session providing variety for repeat participants. Daily schedules will be created by Camp Councillors and  approved by the Lead Camp Councillor and Camp Director
  • Volunteer Management: Assist with the Recruitment of presenters as needed and engage program volunteers in daily activities and tasks
  • Accountability: Assure the safety of all participants and National Standards compliance
  • Record Keeping: Documentation of programming, daily summaries, and completing incident reports when necessary
  • Teaching: develop and model various leadership skills and facilitate the principles of character education throughout all activities.
  • Team Building: Foster a team approach with campers and volunteers in promoting and setting standards & guidelines of appearance, conduct, performance, co-operation and expectations
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the Lead Camp Councillor or Camp Director
