Vintage Hotels Special(tea)

Niagara-on-the-Lake, ON

During the month of April, Prince of Wales visitors can enjoy the tradition of English High Tea while making a real difference in the lives of children in need. Vintage Hotels will donate $4 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada from the sale of every adult booking for High Tea. A full high tea experience is $32 per adult plus taxes. During the month, Vintage Hotels will also offer a special to members of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program with proper identification. When Big Brothers or Big Sisters pay for a High Tea experience, their little brother or sister can enjoy their own High Tea experience for free, regardless of their age. Little Prince/Princess tea for children 12 and under is regularly $17 plus taxes.

Afternoon Tea has even become an alternative to the business lunch or dinner. Prince of Wales celebrates the tradition of English High Tea every day from noon to 6 p.m. in the hotel’s Drawing Room. Guests sip on a variety of exquisite loose-leaf teas from around the world, such as the classic Ceylon Orange Pekoe or the exotic Moon Drops white tea. Green and herbal teas are also available. Coffee and hot chocolate are offered for non-tea drinkers. Port and sherry are also available, along with sparkling wine, champagne, and Icewine.

Guests can also savour delicate finger sandwiches and decadent opera cakes. Traditional Afternoon Tea consists of truffled egg salad with chicken liver parfait, Virginia ham, sweet minted pea and cucumber, and salmon salad pinwheel sandwiches; chocolate shortbread cookies, strawberry shortcake, lemon curd tart, and raspberry cheesecake; and scones with plump jasmine tea-infused sultanas accompanied by Greaves strawberry jam, cream, and butter. Other variations include a selection of Canadian cheeses.

Built in 1864 and named in honour of a royal visit in 1901, Prince of Wales is one of the world’s finest hotels, earning a spot on the Travel & Leisure Top 500 Hotels list, a No. 1 ranking on the Condé Nast Gold List 2007, and a CAA/AAA four diamond rating. Lavishly decorated guestrooms offer a unique combination of elegant antiques, crisp linens, gas fireplaces, and exquisite traditional brocades and tapestries. Facilities are also available for small meetings or executive retreats. Escabèche dining room features the bold flavours of the region’s finest produce. Churchill Lounge serves classic pub fare in a cozy library setting or outdoor patio while the Drawing Room honours the tradition of English High Tea. Secret Garden Spa offers a wide selection of services to soothe body and soul in an opulent oasis inspired by the classic English garden.
