Ponoka Agency Selected as Theme for Ponoka Stampede Parade

February 25, 2013

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ponoka has been selected as the theme for the Ponoka Stampede Parade where 10,000 people typically line the parade route. Ponoka Alberta is the home of Canada’s largest professional rodeo, as well as the Canadian Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame.

Between June 25th and July 1st 2013 Ponoka will see its population swell, as approximately 80,000 visitors attend the Ponoka Stampede. The Ponoka Stampede parade is one of the favorite activities over the course of this week of celebration

“Our selection as the parade theme is a very significant achievement and will result in several opportunities throughout the entire week of the Ponoka Stampede for promotion of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the value and benefits of mentoring,” said Beth Reitz, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ponoka.

Thousands of rodeo contestants, officials, stock contractors, rodeo fans and media representing communities across Canada and the United States will descend on Ponoka for this week of celebration.

“When they arrive, they will have the opportunity to celebrate Big Brothers Big Sisters’ Centennial with us and when they return home, we hope they will ‘start something’ and become involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters in their own communities. This is another wonderful opportunity to add to the many events that are already planned to help celebrate this special milestone in the history of Big Brothers Big Sisters across Canada,” added Reitz.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ponoka and the Ponoka Stampede are working together to celebrate this special centennial year.

“When the dust has settled after the last performance and all the cowboys and cowgirls have gone home with their prize money and buckles, it will be the children and youth in our communities who are the biggest winners of all. As a result of this joint venture, it will help us ensure that every child who needs a mentor has a mentor,” said Reitz.
