WestJet Impacts Big Brothers Big Sisters in a BIG Way

cares_4_kids_RGB_150pxWestJet has been a valuable partner and supporter now for over eight years, continually surprising us year over year with their generosity and creativity. Through its charitable giving program, WestJet Cares for Kids, WestJet provides flight vouchers in support of both local and national Big Brothers Big Sisters initiatives. We were delighted that, in 2012, WestJet announced a renewed commitment to Big Brothers Big Sisters by pledging three full years of support and increasing their gift of flight to ensure all local Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies from coast to coast could benefit from this partnership.

In 2013, WestJet provided additional support to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada's Social Innovators Youth Leadership Summit in Ottawa. The event coincided with Big Brothers Big Sisters 100-year anniversary and gathered 100 former Little Brothers and Little Sisters from across Canada for a truly inspirational and unique learning experience. WestJet even added a very special touch to the event by surprising the attending youth with a concert by Kardinal Offishall and Karl Wolf!

WestJet continues to go above and beyond in their support of Big Brothers Big Sisters and the children we serve across the country.

As a new initiative, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada has teamed up with WestJet and Live Different to assemble a group of brave and generous souls to travel to the Dominican Republic in November 2014. We will build houses in an impoverished community that is gradually being transformed, house by house (and person by person) into its namesake, Nuevo Renacer (“New Life”).

YouthSummit2012_002Being as Big Brothers Big Sisters is a WestJet Cares for Kids partner, WestJet has graciously donated return trip flights to the first 25 participants of the Live Different Hero Holiday Project where participants can travel from any WestJet destination within Canada, to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.

A BIG thank you from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada and its agencies to WestJet for believing in the impact of mentoring and for making a positive difference in the lives of our nation’s youth.
