Meet the Mentoring Challenge

Do you find yourself curious about the benefits of mentoring? Have you been wanting to get more involved in our community? Do you have an hour free during the week? You may just the candidate we're looking for!

Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham is proud to introduce our new Meet the Mentoring Challenge! We're encouraging YOU to take the challenge! We're challenging our staff and community to find 100 new volunteer mentors by December 2014.

In-School Mentoring only takes an hour commitment each week in the school, some activities you can take part in with your mentee are:

  • Sports
  • Games
  • Baking/Cooking
  • Talking
  • Playing on the playground
  • Crafts

In-School Mentoring can help increase a child's literacy skills, enhance social competence and improve academic performance.

Our traditional Big Brother Big Sister program only takes a 3-4 hour commitment a week, and some ideas of activities you can do are:

  • Attend sporting events
  • Play sports
  • Go out for lunch/dinner
  • Cook/Bake together
  • Go for a walk in the park
  • Crafts
  • Go to the movies
  • Play miniputt
  • Go bowling

The traditional program can help improve the self-esteem and quality of life for a child.
