North Durham's Project Youth Begins its Inspirational Mission

A collection of North Durham's community leaders has broken new ground in creating opportunities for inspiring North Durham's youth

The newly formed initiative, North Durham's Project Youth, is a six-member group dedicating itself to helping young minds grow into leaders within their communities.
Their first venture will bring world-renowned speaker and activist Marc Kielburger to Port Perry. His scheduled appearance has been confirmed for September 9, 2014. Kielburger will be addressing Grades 7 and 8 students from schools across North Durham.
Kielburger, who has appeared throughout the world's media including Oprah and 60 Minutes, is best known for founding "Me to We" and "Free the Children". His message, "The World Needs Your Kid", is a perfect match for the planning committee's initiative.

North Durham's Project Youth works alongside Do Good Kids of Port Perry and Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Durham. When these six community members realized that schools in the northern parts of Durham Region were not able to share the same experiences as their more populated neighbours, North Durham's Project Youth decided to take action.
"This is very exciting to be able to provide projects of this magnitude to our area. We want to encourage strong community initiatives through young, passionate hearts," says Lisa Oriente, founder of Do Good Kids and member of North Durham's Project Youth planning committee.

"Children don't magically develop a social conscience when they turn eighteen. We have to help young people on that journey. Not only do you expose them to the challenges in the world, but it's actually empowering to your child." -Craig Kielburger
